Ancestral Gifts and Lessons: Kwanzaa 2024 at Third Unitarian Church of Chicago
Greetings, all! As we forge ahead into 2025, I hope your year has begun with hope and strength as we face an anxiously anticipated future together on this eve of the latest presidential inauguration.
Kwanzaa ended the week I left for Senegal and I was honored to accept another invitation from Third Unitarian Church of Chicago to design and co-lead a Kwanzaa service for their community on Ujaama Sunday. The link I’m sharing with you will take you to a YouTube video; you can also listen to it via SoundCloud from Third Unitarian Church‘s website.
I am proud of the celebration that TUC's worship team and I put together which took place on the day of Ujamaa: cooperative economics. During the recording you will hear me honoring ancestors that transitioned this year (Ella Jenkins, Faith Ringgold, Nicki Giovanni and Quincy Jones to name a few), aligning their legacies to the Nguzo Saba – the seven principles of Kwanzaa. I hope you enjoy and take meaning from it.
In the spirit of care and protection,
Atena
